Limewash walls in Los Angeles
Slaked lime brushed on in thin, translucent coats. Chalky and completely matte, with a cloudy movement that shifts through the day as the light moves across it.
What it is
Lime putty thinned with water and brushed — not troweled — in crossing strokes, so the layers stay translucent and the wall keeps a soft, breathing depth. It cures by carbonating with the air, which is why it hardens over weeks rather than hours.
Where it works
Bedrooms, ceilings and quiet rooms, and older or breathable walls where a sealed film would be the wrong thing. It is the least reflective finish we apply, so it suits rooms with strong direct light that a sheen would fight.
What to expect
Colour is judged wet and dry — limewash dries several shades lighter than it goes on, so samples are non-negotiable. Left unsealed it keeps its full chalky matte and will mark; sealed, it loses a little of that in exchange for washing down.
