Intonaco lime plaster walls in Los Angeles
Intonaco is the plainest of the lime finishes and the most architectural — the traditional flat render, troweled level rather than polished, so the wall reads as a solid material instead of a decorative surface.
What it is
Lime and sand or limestone aggregate, applied in coats and finished level. It is the base the other finishes are variations on — Marmorino is this compressed and polished, Roman clay is this made finer and burnished. Left as it is, it keeps a coarse, quiet texture.
Where it works
Whole rooms, commercial interiors and anywhere the wall should feel like part of the building rather than a treatment applied to it. It is the most forgiving of the family across large areas, which is why it turns up on the bigger jobs.
What to expect
Fewer passes than a polished finish and it covers ground faster, but the substrate has to be true — a flat finish hides nothing. Sealed or unsealed depending on the room; commercial walls always get a top coat.
